When going through a divorce you should have a plan set up to have the process be easier on you. Here’s a short guide to help you get through your divorce.

- Gather financial documents such as tax returns, bank statements, real estate purchases and sales records.

- Find a good lawyer. Not just any lawyer, but one who specializes in divorces.

- Avoid stress. This is very difficult to do, but think of divorce as a legal process, not as a personal one. Avoid arguing with your spouse, as this will do no good. Also avoid bringing other relatives, friends or your children into the process.

- If you and your spouse do not have an agreement, work with your lawyer to come up with a proposal to submit to the other party.

- Agree on as much as possible and just take any remaining issues to the trial where they will be resolved.

- Make financial plans for life after the divorce. Set realistic goals for your finances for your life after a divorce.
